Extremely poor service, with waiters only trying to make you order expensive bottles, and reminding you at the end of the meal that service is not included in the ticket. Food was fine but took a while to arrive and was in my case cold. Portions are medium to small. The experience feels like a rip-off.

I wanted to love Citronelle. The location is lovely (across from the opera house) and the decor is charming, both in the dining room and on the terrace. The menu is one of those menus where you just want to order everything! It all sounds so good! I don't know if maybe I made the wrong choices, but the experience just didn't live up to my (admittedly high) expectations. Wine: There are only a few kinds of wine available by the glass. Of the three whites, one wasn't available. I chose the Sancerre, which was okay but nothing exceptional. Starter: I had the scallops. They were so tender and perfectly cooked. But the spinach sauce they were served in was a tad too salty and had too much oxalic acid (you know, when you eat spinach and it makes your teeth feel weird). Main course: I chose the sea bass at the waiter's recommendation. The fish itself was dry, lukewarm and tasteless. It was served with three kinds of tapanade, and then there was a cold (intentionally) side sauce to pour over the dish. The tapanades and the sauce we all good, but somehow they did not compliment each other in the dish. The result was a kind of disjointed flavour experience. It wasn't bad, but it was not harmonious either. Bottom line: I don't mind at all to pay for an extraordinary dining experience, but in the end this was the most expensive dinner of my five-night stay in Kiev, and among the least exceptional. Maybe I was just unlucky? I would give it another try if I had the chance.

The food, service and atmosphere are all great but brace yourself for the bill! Many up charges on all of the items and a pretty big service fee so don’t bother tipping. It was nice but I would NEVER go back as it’s 4 times the price of anywhere I’ve eaten in Kyiv. They even charged so much for a child’s pasta. #notimpressed!

Had a dinner there yesterday. The food is just unbelievably authentic and great. I think it can compete with best restaurants in Paris. Beef tartar, beef carpacio, duck, risotto, foie gras, crem brulee - just amazing. The selection of wines and service are impeccable. It is quite expensive by Ukraine standards. My personal opinion, if the price would be within an affordable range there would be many more normal local people and not just foreigners like me or some local oligarchs who look like criminals as they are. The atmosphere would be much more pleasant then.
