Proctology is a medical field that studies diseases of the colon (rectum and colon) of the intestine, anus and pararectal region. Anal sex
As a practicing and operating proctologist, I can tell you that I have not finally decided on my opinion regarding anal sex and its consequences in terms of rectal diseases.
Let's just say that physiologically, rectal tissue is not designed for the role of "sexual assault". Evolutionarily, nature has foreseen for this purpose another organ - the vagina, the tissues of which can be repeatedly stretched within a fairly wide range without being damaged. Other physiological components are also provided - lubrication, self-cleaning, maintaining the vaginal biocenosis, etc. The epithelium of the rectum, especially the anorectal zone, is much more vulnerable and less susceptible to mechanical stress than it seems at first glance. Therefore, in my practice, I have to deal with such consequences of anal sex as anal fissures, hemorrhoids, wall prolapse and, if I'm not at all lucky, then - paraproctitis.
Of course, this does not happen to everyone. It would be dishonest if I do not say that I also have to deal with patients who come for medical examinations, while practicing anal sex for a long time, and with no changes in the rectum.
In any case, deciding whether or not to engage in anal sex, you must be aware of the risks to your health. Perhaps, in making this decision, the words of Aristotle will help you - the Reasonable is not chasing after what is pleasant, but after what gets rid of troubles.
Dropdown nodes
Recently in the literature more and more often began to meet such a phenomenon as the "drop down node", or Drop Down Syndrome in English-language sources.
Often, many doctors and patients associate this phenomenon exclusively with various forms of hemorrhoids, which is not entirely correct. Of course, the prolapse of the node is not a diagnosis, it is only a certain symptom complex, united by common signs, and helping the specialist to understand the diagnosis at first. The main manifestation is, of course, the presence of a node (nodes), or some excess tissue in the anorectal zone, which was not previously detected there, and which should not be normal either anatomically or physiologically. Other manifestations (symptoms of the second order) can be pain of varying intensity and shape, the presence of pathological discharge both in feces and on linen - blood, mucus, pus, etc. Also, these symptoms include a violation of the act of defecation, incontinence of feces and gas, perianal itching and burning.
Most often, it is really hemorrhoids, but often, there may be other clinical forms such as: tumors (benign and malignant), mucosal hypertrophy as a result of neglected anal fissures (a symptom of "sentinel tubercle"), perianal warts, anal fimbria, thrombosis of the anorectal zone , mouth of fistulous passages, abscesses, abscesses, etc.
Often, especially in advanced cases, even a specialist cannot distinguish one form or another of a prolapsed node from the first try, for example, a hemorrhoidal node from a polyp of the anorectal zone with malignancy. As a result, the patient undergoes an extended examination, up to cytological and pathohistological.
As a separate aspect, I would like to note the oncological problem in proctology . Unfortunately, morbidity and mortality from cancer is growing every day, displacing these indicators among cardiovascular diseases in their structure, which are in the first place in this sad list. So, the incidence and mortality from colorectal cancer is gradually approaching the second place among oncological diseases. The problem is further aggravated by the fact that for a long time malignant manifestations of the colorectal zone do not manifest themselves in any way, and are detected even when complications appear. It is clear that, unfortunately, there can be no talk of any radical treatment. In our country, this is primarily due to the almost complete absence of preventive medicine and high-quality diagnostics before the tumor begins to manifest itself clinically.
