The Monastery is definitely worth visiting. Its a huge area. You can walk and visit everything for free. It's surrounded by religious people, so its always nice to be respectful of their religion and culture.I would recommend visit the caves, it was an incredible experience and immersion into the Catholic orthodox religion.

Within the caves are the tombs of Orthodox saints, naturally mummified. The lower section, including the caves, is controlled by the monastery, while the upper parts are run by the state and include a variety of museums. The caves can be quite confusing and one may need a guide to fully understand what is being seen. The caves are low in places and taller people will need to stoop sometimes. Photography is not permitted within the caves and they are unlit, meaning that you will need to carry a candle with you. There are two sets of caves, one nearer the main monastery and the other further away and connected by a wooden covered walkway. The upper part contains the bell tower. Only the lower segment of the bell tower was open when we were there, but this was still quite high and gives some stunning views of the monastery, of Rodina Mat in the distance and of the River Dnieper itself. The main church of Pechersk Lavra is very lavish both inside and out and is well worth seeing. There is a smaller Refectory Church, with a large circular dome, which has some very interesting examples of Orthodox Art Nouveau paintings from the early 20th-century. The upper part of the complex holds a number of museums. I only visited the microminiatures museum and the treasure museum, but there were a number of others and one could spend quite some time here, although each individual museum is small.

Give yourself a couple of hours to visit this whole complex. You don't have to be religious to appreciate the fine architecture and enjoy the peacefulness of this place. Lots to see both outside the buildings and inside too. Make sure you arrive in plenty of time to visit the caves; I didn't and missed out on these. Best metro is Arsenalna and from there it’s a nice 15 minute walk, you don't need to get a bus as some articles indicate.

Without a shadow of a doubt my personal favourite area of Kiev to visit was Kyivo Pechers'Ka Lavra which is a beautiful monastery complex with so many religious structures, statues and interesting features such as the caves with the mummified monks within.Walking around this whole area is a joy to the eye,so much to see,so much to enjoy ,taking in the sheer beauty of some of the churches and monastery buildings is a delight, the grounds with the monastery complex are well kept and very photogenic, make for some great photographic opportunities, its popular with locals and tourists alike and if your planning a trip to Kiev should be at the top of your list of places to visit.Easy to locate along Vul Lavrska, most definitely well worth checking out.
