Crowning the top of Andriyivsky Descent is this magnificent five-domed church that was designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, who also designed the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. St. Andrew's in Kiev was his last masterpiece. One of the city's best known landmarks, the teal, gold and white facade of this Baroque edifice offers rare beauty and unusual elegance. It was built in the shape of a cross and its edges are decorated with fancy ornamental towers. The church was turned into a museum. Unfortunately, it was closed on the Tuesday that our group of 20 did a walking tour.
