What made Rolex a truly iconic watch? Surely, in addition to excellent quality and chic, this was the rich history of the Swiss company.

The founder of the company was not a Swiss or watchmaker. Hans Wilsdorf was a Bavarian who in 1903 moved to London and exported pearls. A little later, he moved to the company of a friend from the school who was engaged in the supply of Swiss watches. So Hans' interest in clockwork was born.

Interestingly, in those days, wearing a wristwatch was completely unpresentable; real gentlemen preferred pocket watches. A wristwatch was considered more of a female accessory.

After working for a while at the company of a friend, after a while, Hans got the idea to open his own. And in 1905, together with his son-in-law, he registered his watch company, which he named Wilsdorf and Davis. Hans began producing silver and gold watches with straps, which, oddly enough, were a great success. A model with a flexible metal strap, which the founder himself invented, was especially in demand. Three years later, the company was renamed “Rolex”, known to everyone today.

To date, Rolex has gained the status of an empire, the brand has branches throughout the world. The volume of production does not exceed 80 thousand units per year to make each copy of the brand even more valuable and exclusive.
