There is a widespread, but nevertheless erroneous, belief that wisdom teeth (eighth teeth, third molars - scientifically) can erupt in a person at any age. In fact, this is not the case. The buds of third molars begin to form at the age of 6–7, which is often revealed during a routine X-ray examination, and the roots of the eighth teeth begin to form at the age of 15–17. Wisdom teeth complete their formation at the age of 21-22 (in rare cases - at the age of 25-27).
A complete set of third molars - one on each side and one on each jaw - is found in 92% of the adult population.
In 78% of cases, the eruption of wisdom teeth is associated with various complications. CT results must be submitted in printed form.
- To remove wisdom teeth in the upper jaw, in most cases, the doctor only needs an X-ray. If, in the doctor's opinion, the X-ray is not enough, the doctor can send the patient to have a CT scan of the upper jaw and return to the clinic for tooth extraction, taking into account the results of the CT scan.
