Khreshchatyk Street is the High Street of Kiev. The architecture along this street is beautiful but the offerings in terms of shops and restaurants are average. The only interesting shop to me is the Roshen Candy and Chocolate Store, because it is uniquely Ukrainian, I suppose.A nice street to stroll and people watch.
The beautiful main street of Kyiv. Very European. Especially beautiful in the spring when the chestnut trees are green and hundreds of beautiful ladies are out. Many great eateries along this street and within a few blocks either side from simple food kiosks to cafes and bars to high end restaurants. Many high end shops. Can get a bit touristy. Central section it is usually blocked off from automotive traffic on the weekends and becomes a pedestrian promenade. Much history here also as it was site of the Maidan a couple of years ago and many of the Orange Revolution demonstrations years before that. Auto traffic can be bad. Metro has recently upgraded signs in English which makes it easier to figure out for tourists. Metro is a good and efficient way to get around town.
Khreschatyk really is the heart of the modern city of Kiev. It is a huge street with magnificent stately and ornate buildings. We always seemed to gravitate towards it. It has elegant shops, high end ones mind you so bring your wallet! The same goes for eateries, some lovely places but expensive.Great street to stroll along and soak up the feel of cosmopolitan Kiev.
